Marvel Comics to Launch New Imprint for BIPOC Creators
Marvel Comics announced that it will be launching a new imprint called Prism, which will feature comics created by and for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) creators. The imprint will be overseen by editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski and VP of Creative & Publishing Strategy Sana Amanat.
"We are committed to creating a more diverse and inclusive Marvel Comics, and Prism is a major step towards that goal," said Cebulski. "We want to provide a platform for BIPOC creators to tell their own stories, and we believe that Prism will be a powerful tool for representation and empowerment."
Amanat added, "Prism is a dream come true for me. I've always wanted to create a space for BIPOC creators to tell their stories, and I'm so excited to see what they come up with. I know that Prism will be a game-changer for the comic book industry."
The Prism imprint will launch in 2023 with a lineup of new comics from a variety of BIPOC creators. The first series to be announced is Stormbreaker, a new series about a young Black woman who inherits the power of Thor. The series will be written by Daniel Kibblesmith and illustrated by Jahnoy Lindsay.
"I'm so excited to be working on Stormbreaker," said Kibblesmith. "It's a chance to tell a story about a young Black woman who is trying to find her place in the world, and I can't wait to share it with readers."
"Stormbreaker is a powerful story about identity, legacy, and the importance of finding your own voice," said Lindsay. "I'm honored to be a part of it."
The Prism imprint is a major step forward for Marvel Comics in its efforts to create a more diverse and inclusive company. It is a sign that Marvel is committed to hearing the voices of BIPOC creators and sharing their stories with the world.
I am excited to see what the Prism imprint will bring to the comic book industry. I believe that it has the potential to be a game-changer, and I am eager to see what BIPOC creators will do with this new platform.
